Records of League Island tell us not only about the physical environment but also which environmental features were valued. How League Island was represented on the page in turn influenced future uses of and alterations to its materiality. This exchange between concept and physicality is ongoing with the PIDC’s development plans. While we have representations of League Island from a variety of past, present, and future-oriented sources, we can have direct experience of the Navy Yard’s physicality only in the present. The following videos will take you through the various representations of League Island through time. As you watch, imagine how you would experience the environment these maps and records describe.
