An homage to Walnut, Chestnut and South St bridges

This sculpture represents the three bridges between which we walked for the duration of the semester. It changed drastically since I started working on it. In the beginning I planned to make a video sculpture that would in the future serve as a memory of the tidal Schuylkill in its current state, but as I continued to make the bridge models, I realized that was not what interested me.
This piece is a memory of our walking on the river. After walking on the tidal Schuylkill for a semester, I feel a certain connection to it. It has become a place of reflection for me. As I did the weekly walks, my mind kept imaging what the river and its surroundings would look like in 10, 30, or 50 years from now. It always looked different in my mind, depending on what we read in class that week and how hopeful it made me for the future, but one thing always stayed the same – the bridges never changed. This sculpture is an homage to Walnut, Chestnut and South St bridges, which often got overlooked in my walking practice, but were always a constant.
